Dads in America - vent

Something has been getting to me lately. It is tv and commercials that dumb down men, make them look like incompetent idiots who can't manage to connect to the internet, cook something in the microwave, wash their clothes, feed/change a baby.... etc.

One example that comes on all the time is a comcast commercial where the dad is looking for the cord to plug his computer into the internet. He is just flabbergasted that he can't find his cord and wants to use his daughter's. When his wife tries to explain how she got wireless internet, he is still perplexed, causing his daughter to say, "Dad, the cord is invisible" like tricking him will take care of this pesky situation and he will just stop asking questions. That is the way I treat my dog!

I cannot stand the sitcoms and commercials that do this! And then we wonder why more of our men aren't in a place to lead our homes and country in the right direction (although there are plenty of men, and women, SERVING our country and I commend every single one of them). I think about what a different place we may live in if we lifted up our men and stopped dumbing them down and rendering them incapable. What does that teach our boys?!

Granted the media portrays the wrong thing in just about every issue.... but still this one has really bugged me lately.

I believe that husbands are called to be our spiritual leaders, leaders in our homes and lives, to be A LOT more than just an idiot that lives in our house who gets in the way and breaks things. I know so many men that are brilliant and wonderful fathers, really great men that live with faith, but I rarely see that portrayed anywhere in the media. Think about it... how many shows do you know that play off a complete idiot for a dad, about how useless he is?

Goodbye Lost

It was the end of Lost last night as I'm sure you all know. I have watched it compulsively since the first episode and really have no idea what I'm going to do with my tv life now. I also heard that Flash Forward was being canceled, so now I really might as well just cancel my cable.

As for the last episode of LOST....

What?!

Seriously. I'm still confused. Maybe not as much as I was in episode 1 & 2 or the first time we saw the smoke monster, but I have to admit.... I don't quite understand the, 'they're all dead' part. When was it that everyone was dead? Did the 2 worlds intertwine? What about Kate and Hurley who flew away? Where are they going?

Now I am glad that they all reunited and Claire and Charlie got back together. We were missing quite a few from the very end though... And why did Charlotte & Daniel not have memories flood back in?

What about Jack and Juliet's son? and John yelling... you don't have a son! and then he wasn't dead... was he?

Anyways, I think I may have to just rent the whole thing and start over.

What did you think? I'd love some explanations!

Oh. My. Gosh.

I'm in love with whoever combined two of my favorite things (& old posts): THIS and THIS.
Thanks Annie! :)

Music is a little off at the end, and I really wish it was the entire song... but I love it.

LOVE some LOST

Do you watch LOST???

Are you obsessed???

I'm so glad that Claire is back (Have I ever told you my obsession of all things Australian?) However, she definitely could use a bath and maybe a dose of sanity. Just bring back Charlie and I'll be happy.

I'm so lost this season though.

What on earth is with the flashes to the non-island reality???

And tonight... it said we were supposed to have some questions answered? I received no answers. Just more confusion. With only 10 episodes left, I hope they don't just wait until the last one and be like, Okay... here is what's up.

Did you get any answers? If so, I'd love for you to share!

As seen on tv.

I stayed up late enough to start seeing the infomercials on TV the other night. I am a SUCKER for As Seen On TV products... I will watch a whole show of infomercials before snapping back to reality....

Currently I want these:

Slap Chop (mainly because of the song... and yes, this comes on TV... Ben does NOT believe me, but I promise it does).

Perfect Brownie Pan Set.... seriously every time I make brownies they look like CR-RAP... this is such a great idea!

Bumpits!! (Although the name sounds like a disease of the armpits...)
I love some volume...

My birthday is in 3 months. I'll gladly take any of the three. ;) Thanks.

LOST

The commercials have started.... I don't know if I can make it another week!

Tuesday, February 2nd on ABC. If you aren't watching LOST yet, I suggest you call in sick to work and spend the next 8 days on ABC.com watching it from season 1. You'll be hooked. I am SO excited LOST will be back!

Useless Saturday Information

I love this commercial....I have no idea why... I don't even watch that show very often.

I actually had no idea it was a real song...

Have you seen this show?!

Secret life of the American Teenager, that I think they've reduced down to 'The Secret Life'?

I remember a couple years ago when it came out and I thought it would be a wholesome show, since it IS on ABC Family.... about a girl who gets knocked up (obviously I'm nieve).

I turned it on today (a few years into it I'm assuming) and watched for maybe 9 minutes and the ONLY thing that was talked about was sex! Literally. One girl said she wanted to marry a boy, but the girl she was talking to, was like, 'well sorry I'm sleeping with him', and the first girl said, 'well that is okay because he has to have sex with someone!' WHAT?!

Then it goes to her parents, who are also having sex, and then skips to her brother who has down syndrome and he wants to have sex with his girlfriend too. Pans over to someone's boyfriend who mentions that he wants to see a girl again after the first night he met her and had sex with her. He did then mention that he was a Christian and the girl said me too.... so we are sinners together, and gave that weird eye brow thing.

Okay, so is this the only thing this show is about????? Does anyone watch it?

I've totally lost faith in ABC Family if that's what this show is about.
I'm fully aware that there is a lot of junk out there, but I thought ABC Family was a good wholesome channel you could turn to when you wanted to get away from the filth? (I was actually trying to get away from the blood and guts of House for a moment).

This show is targeting pre-teens right? So I'm thinking 10-12 year olds, who will be thinking that the only thing going on in 9th grade is sex, everyone is having it, everyone is doing it, and its all anyone talks about. That it is okay to let your boyfriend have sex with other girls if he can't have sex with you? Wow...

What do you think? Am I overreacting in my shock?

Tuesday's List - TV!

Could I be a better blogger this week?! I think not.

Okay, so I haven't particpated in Love from Texas' Tuesday's Lists yet but because today is all about TV shows, I couldn't resist. I like to pretend that I am not a tv-aholic (I should do a whole month of 'Not Me Mondays' on this topic). I like to pretend that I am out working out, reading books, cleaning the house, studying.... instead of sitting on the couch staring open-mouthed at the tv. Well, lets list those shows now! In no particular order (because its pretty much a 19-way tie...yes, there are 19 shows currently being recorded on my dvr, its a wonder i have time to go to work).

Okay, I lied.... LOST wins # 1. It is definitely the best show hands down I've ever watched. (Oh how I miss Charlie....)

Grey's Anatomy and all its is-she-gay-is-she-straight-married-not married-killing-saving-patient-post it-goodness.

Oooooh.... BIGGEST LOSER! Look at this picture and tell me you don't love this show too?! I am a sucker for any before/after pictures: weight loss, makeovers, sinks, food, plastic surgery, houses....

Glee (Because I secretly wish I was back in high school singing the theme song to Gilligan's Island on stage again).

Tell me you aren't interested in people who keep so much crap that they almost lose their home. You could be interested because its sad, because you want to help, because you are glad its not you, because you like watching train wrecks, or because its amazing that people like this really exist, but admit it... you are interested. Personally, I want to be their counselor, they fascinate me and make me sad at the same time. I want to help them know why they feel the need to never clean, never throw away and compulsively pick up trash off the street.... could there be a bigger scream for help? (I also think its amazing that someone can be a Certified Professional Organizer specializing in Chronic Disorganization - where were those people on career day?!)

There are a 'few' more, but I'll leave you guessing.

"Not Me" Monday

This is a funny one that some of my favorite bloggers have been participating in, so of course I have to join the crowd.

Today I most certainly did NOT download the entire first album of Glee and sing every song at the top of my lungs all the way home from work pretending I was Rachel... not me!

(Nor did I pretend enthusiastically that I was Archie...)

Welcome back Daniel

The Biggest Loser is one of my all time favorite shows minus one season where a terrible, negative person named Vicky was on there. Ugh... she made me not want to ever watch the show. However, last season was back to normal of positive attitudes and a lot of weight loss. This season starts this week! So in honor of the season premier..... Meet Daniel (on the right)!

He was a contestant last season with his best friend, David. Well David was the crummiest partner anyone could have asked for. David started out weighing 393 and only lost 43 pounds the entire show. I don't think he even gave up smoking. So needless to say, Daniel went home with him even though he tried MUCH harder and ended up losing a total 142 lbs. Daniel's starting weight was 454 pounds, so he lost 31%. Well.... he's back!!!! The new season starts Tuesday at 7pm! This year's theme is appropriately "Second Chances." Thankfully, I have DVR!
