The Little Logan

I'm avoiding you.
I have started and not finished many blogs this week, but felt like they all said the same thing not very well, so they haven't been published.
But, I'll tell you what DOES get published. You all know my LOVE for all things dog right? If not, just search 'dog' in the bar in the top right. Well this is one of my favorite commercials.
Wondering what my FAVORITE one is? I know you can barely stand it...
I think even 4 or maybe 5 years later it is still this one:
I love the song, the colors, the little boy hiding waiting for them to bounce down the street... I love the dog, the old truck, the frog... I LOVE this commercial.

Interesting night
So anyways, there was this boxer that Ben said we'd care for after a neighbor found him a few months ago. You can read about that post here. I posted signs all over our neighborhood and found his family! Woo! Happy ending right? So you thought...
Tonight while wearing a robe, the door bell rang. (Always good timing). I warned Ben that if it was a solicitor and he said, 'Let me get my wife' I'd punch him. He answered the door. It was one of the owners of the dog. She was HYS-TER-ICAL. She said her boyfriend had hit her, kicked her out, and told her if the dog didn't leave with her, he'd untie it and let him go. She didn't know what else to do with the dog, she had no job, no where to live, nothing. At this point I am listening from around the corner and Ben is stuttering a little, but probably thinking, 'Uh.... hmm....this is strange'. So I poked my head out and said, 'Sure, we'll take him.'
I opened the garage and she brought in his bed with tears flowing down her face, she hugged him 10 times and told me how sorry she was for burdening us. I assured her she wasn't and asked if she had anywhere else to go. She said she was going to a friends (I don't even think she had a car) and I gave her my telephone number in case she needed anything and she left... still hysterical.
So wow... what a way to put life into perspective.

Update
The dogs are okay, and we're still completly shocked at their fight. We will never be keeping them alone together again. (Even though before Friday night, they absolutely loved and adored each other for 3 years.) Logan now has on the 'Cone of Shame' and is very angry about it. She thinks when you put the cone on her it means she can't move. I try to show her she can still move, but she doesn't believe me. Its quite pitiful.
The exam also went okay. It was pretty simple, except very unrealistic. One part of it played 'voicemail' type messages and then you had 2 minutes to write a message as if you were delivering it to all your co-workers (very dumb) and all the people who left 'voice mails' had super accents from anywhere but the south. Apparently, not only do southerners talk slow, but I think I hear slow too... It was quite strange and considering a I rarely hand write anything now, let alone in under 2 minutes, my arm and hand did cramp up and turn into a claw for a few hours after I was finished.
Anywho... after this weekend, I'm not feeling a Not Me Monday other than it was Not Me who had a horrible, no good, very bad weekend. Bring on Tuesday!

'twas the night before my exam
'Twas the night before my exam, when all through the house
Two creatures were stirring, probably b/c of a mouse;
The dogs had bitten each other, had blood in their hair,
In hopes that one of them would kill the other right there;
The child went home with Nana, and then straight to bed,
While visions of death danced in the dogs heads;
And Ben in his north face, and I in my cap,
stumbled upon this scene and thought, oh snap!
When out in the kitchen there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the garage to see what was the matter.
Away to the livingroom I flew like a flash,
saw blood all over everything and knew there was a gash.
Ben said, don't worry, I'll handle this now.
You have an exam tomorrow, close your eyes if you know how,
zzzz....
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature cell phone, and a song bringing cheer,
With eyes so tired and wondering what the fliss,
I knew in a moment it must be the brother Chris.
More strange were his sentences as they rambled and came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and told me his name;
"I've been in an accident, I have stitches times seven,
Come to the hospital I think I just saw Blitzen!
To the top of the bed, I sat straight up and tall,
"What the heck are you talking about, goodness to all?!"
As whimpers and moans reminded me my poor Logan was hurt,
Could it be 4am and Chris has blood on his shirt?!
So up to the hospital the family they flew,
With the head full of worry, and stress filled them too.
And then, in a twinkling, I heard the alarm,
With dread and panic, the exam would do much harm.
As I fumbled to get out of bed, and was turning around,
Down the road then the interstate, I went with a bound.
I nearly passed out, from my head to my feet,
And my clothes were all tarnished, I wish I could cheat!
A bundle of worries I had on my back,
I looked like a peddler that had taken a whack.
My eyes -- how they burned! my hair, how scary!
My cheeks were like roses, but yet still so wary!
3 hours of sleep, and wondering how,
I was about to take an exam, it starts right now.....

There is a horse in the audience.
Saturday I went to Standifer's Animal Clinic to meet their dogs and take pictures because they have no way of advertising the dogs they have up for adoption. I met these two sweet girls that have been at the shelter for 6 YEARS!Click their picture to learn more about their story. They are definitely up for adoption. I then had lunch w/ several of the CMH girls to talk about upcoming fundraisers. We have Boo at the Zoo in October and Pet-A-Palooza!
So on that note, Happy Monday. School starts again this week and my NCE exam is getting closer and closer. I'll be so glad when November gets here, things should slow down quite a bit.

This weekend
Friday night we planned on having Chris' going away party, since he was scheduled to go into the Marine's on Monday. Well... this week, his recruiter postponed Chris' leave date for the second time and said he couldn't leave until February! (Keep in mind he signed up this past February! You'd think they'd jump on people signing up... ) Anywhoo... Chris and his girlfriend forgot to cancel his party, so we still had his going away party w/ all his friends and our family. :) He is trying to sign w/ the army to leave sooner, but apparently that is more trouble than it sounds, so its completely up in the air now as to where he is going and when, but he WILL go somewhere... sometime!
Here is Stevie at the going away party. I'm pretty sure those are woman's glasses.
So... Saturday, Ben and I were scheduled to go up to Tennessee for some important family stuff. But... before we left that got canceled as well. We were schedule to make several stops in Tennessee during the day and found out our plans were all going to be interrupted, so Ben canceled it all and we spent the day w/ his mom instead, which was much less stressful! Here is Logan wishing we would let her out of the car...
Sunday! Today was cleaning, Publix (saved $57, spent $60 - not my best), and movies! I took a break to go get a Sunday paper filled w/ coupons and instead found this little baby:
This poor baby was wandering in the highway and the gas station attendant said she'd been there all day dodging cars! So I bought a few slim jims and coaxed her into letting me pick her up. She's now (hopefully sleeping) in our garage. The funny part is, Ben's yelling at me saying "we can't keep her!!!" while petting her and talking baby talk to her. He wants to not love them all so bad! lol. If you know of anyone missing this dog, let me know!
Next weekend should be fun, Friday - Paint & Party! Saturday - Puppies & Jesse's CD Release Party at workplay! Sunday... studying for the NCE.

Lately
I have exactly 14 days left to study for my comps which are July 8 @ 1pm, if you would like to pray for me to remember everything I've learned in the past 2 years... this is a major deal. Its 160-200 questions and I HAVE to pass it to start my internship in the fall.
I saved $24 at CVS today and spent $6! (Thanks to chicks w/ cents and southern savers and Jessica for introducing me to it all!) -- Ben would say I'm obsessive about saving money, but I'm working on perfecting my saving skills for next year when I have to intern and cannot get paid enough to live. (Yikes) I am hoping Ben and I can eat for free on Publix specials. :)
Ben and I have been stuck in a lot of traffic on interstates in the past few weeks...
And Ben has done what is necessary to get out of that traffic. Here my main concern was being one of those cars that gets stuck in the mud in the median and has to wait on the cop to come get them out and give them a ticket. Fortunatley the 100 degree weather had dried up any mud that may prevent the Vibe from going off road.
Doggies -- http://www.crossmyheartrescue.com/ -- I have spent a lot of time making the website and am pretty pleased w/ it. :) Sam and Sadie got adopted!!! Here Sam is getting ready to meet his new family:

Logan vs. Polaris
Some randoms over the past week
Also, I had a wonderful surprise when I got home... 2 years ago I planted some day lilies in my front yard. They normally look like this:
What a fun surprise! I wish they all looked like this.
This lilly below is my favorite one, because I bought it on sale for $3, it was shoved under a table nearly dying and had 2 puny stalks on it. I was poor but really wanted a lilly in my yard. Look at what it has become:
Last year it grew so tall it touched the gutters!

Lexi
But in honor of Lexi's day today, let me show you what she's been up to...
Last night, while I was running around at 10pm trying to make dips, pack, grocery shop, clean the house, etc. Lexi was in her cage where she is very happy to be. I thought since she was being so quiet she was playing with her toy or sleeping... Well I went in there after awhile to check on her and here is what I found:
Caught red handed! Apparently, I'd put a basket on the floor that had a tank top, a scarf and a box of tissues in it. Lexi had taken all three out and brought them into her cage. Congratulations to Lexi and her new home!

Cross My Heart

I'm really glad to be able to be a part of the rescue. We've had great support with help from all over the place. My friend Jason donated his time to make a logo! Which is awesome by the way, I'll upload it as soon as he sends me a jpg version. My friend Katie has donated 2 of her adorable dog collars to be raffled off during our garage sale we're having on May 23rd. Here's Katie's site: Coop & Kate. She's incredible! I'm really excited about being a part of Cross My Heart, I now can safely rescue animals instead of bringing home every stray that crosses my path (which tends to make Ben a little grumpy), and I finally use my undergraduate degree :) to help fundraise and plan to raise money and rescue animals.
Let me know if you want to help in any way. Right now we're looking for any donations through our fundable site, and also any items for our garage sale would be great! Garage sale is May 23rd in Hoover, AL.

New Foster Pup! - Lexie
She's only 15lbs and the vet said she's had many litters, perhaps she was of no use to her owners anymore... Anyways, she will be staying with us until she finds her forever home! She's MUCH better than our previous foster Abbey. Lexie even sleeps through the night without any howling or hyperventilating! (Thank goodness... I think Ben was ready to put me and the dogs outside if I found another one like Abbey)

The Foster - Abbey
Well Ben then put up our outside kennel which took him nearly 6 hours... she was in it for 20 minutes and ripped the chainlink away from the metal post and escaped to happily sit on our porch until we let her in. She really isn't insane except when she's caged.
So sadly, Ben and I were not able to continue to foster her, we found a lady who would take her in for the night and then the rescue group sponsoring her will figure out what to do. She needs to be with someone who doesn't work, or can leave her in their house while they are gone.
Poor Abbey, she needs a home and someone to love her.
