I'm tired of being a tug boat.

I really hate complaining, especially on my blog. A passage I read a few weeks ago has been weighing on me for awhile, and I'm trying, I really am! But I am just. plain. tired. I'm tired of a lot of things today. I'm tired of 'low' carbs. I'm tired of closing other people's snacks so they don't get stale. I'm tired of reading directions so other people don't have to. I'm tired of still being in school. I'm tired of working 3 jobs, and only getting paid for one. I'm tired of being everyone's tug boat.

Do you know what a tug boat does? I don't really either.

Except I saw one once, it pulled a massive luxury cruise ship away from a dock I was standing on. Something small... something no one thinks about or remembers even exists... something used to get the rich, luxurious cruise ship back on track.... no thank yous screaming from the deck to that boat... just expected to work when it is its time and it does... it pulls and pulls that massive ship away from the dock so all the cruisers can get back going to the islands and get back to their party. What does a tug boat do when it isn't pulling the cruise ship?

Anyways, I feel like a tug boat. I feel like I'm pulling and pulling and sometimes I need the cruise ship to turn on its dang motor and help me out!!!!! But then I remember that I asked. I asked to be a servant. In fact, I'm pretty sure I ask at least 3 or 4 times a day to be a servant, and maybe this is it! So if God is just answering my prayers.... Why am I so tired?? Which brings me back to why I hate complaining, especially on my blog.

Let me try again.... I am so thankful it is just Saturday. I am thankful I am in school. I am thankful I have church tomorrow. I am so thankful I have DVR and can skip that awful vampire farming humans movie trailer, ick! I am thankful the Biggest Loser started back this week. I am so thankful for the 'blog friends' I have encountered lately (can you just encounter a friend?). I am thankful to have heat.

Most of all, I am thankful that Jesus died on a cross so my soul could be saved. I am. so thankful.

Philippians 2:14-16

14Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe 16as you hold out the word of life—in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor for nothing.

I HAD to share

This guy is HILARIOUS!!!! Seriously I haven't laughed this hard in years... tears are streaming down my face from his blog. Go visit....
And be sure to check out this post.

'How's that diet going' you ask?

Okay so maybe nobody really asked.... But I'm going to tell you anyways.

If you don't know, 6 WHOLE days ago I started a 'change the way I eat' diet. You can read about that here. And its gone pretty well so far. I've had a salad at least once a day all week. (Side note: I would not recommend getting over eager, eating two salads in one day and upping your daily fiber intake from 10% to 700% of the recommended value too quickly... it does not end well!) I have had carbs, but they were in the form of this Kashi cereal. If you look at the ingredients, its very whole products and has protein AND fiber! Its also sweet and carby tasting so I'm not dying over here from not eating anything but fruits and veggies all week.

Side note: Remember I had NO idea what I would eat for breakfast? Well I made spinach omlettes a few days this week! Never in my wildest dream did I think I'd ever put spinach into eggs...yuck.... but I did and I was pleasantly surprised. (This is fresh salad spinach by the way, not goopy canned spinach.) I also bought things to make fruit smoothies as recommended by my friend Jeris. I'm going to attempt those tomorrow b/c Ben begged to make them every morning and said he was going to make 32oz. like at smoothie king, which made me FREAK (because of the cost of all these ingredients and a week's supply would be gone in a slurp!).... so smoothies are off limits until I can supervise his serving sizes.

I've also kept a little bag of peanut butter crackers in my purse all week in case of a meltdown (I'd much rather have a melt down on those than 5 or 6 bite sized candy bars that are staring at me from the office fridge), but the crackers are still there, untouched. Woo!!!

As far as diet goes, I am thinking that IF this clears my skin up that it will take a good month or two to see changes. One of the medicines I used to take for my face (Spironolactone) took about 2 months to make a difference, so its reminded me I have to stick to it for at least that long before I can expect any changes.

I've decided to adopt the mentality that I'm 'allergic' to too many carbs and sugar (I don't think I'd survive: NO carb, NO sugar). This thought of being allergic helps me steer clear of them and remember they have several side effects that I'm trying to conquer, terrible skin being one of them.

I also had my regular chemical peel yesterday. Have any of you had these? This is my 7th or so one in a year, but I think I'm just now starting to figure out how to make my skin benefit from them. I am SO thankful that my insurance pays for them because of my skin history too! A chemical peel is NOT fun while you are getting it and is quite painful, but it does give my skin a chance to start anew every 7 weeks. It doesn't have long-term affects of clear skin though - one downfall.

So that's that, wish me luck on another successful week next week! I'll be off to Tallahassee next weekend for some family fun, bridal showers & parties, so I'll have to really get in the mind-frame, I'm sure there will be cookies and crackers everywhere!

5 Question Friday

My Little Life

Its 5 Question Friday again! I love this day! If you want to play along click Mama M's link above and join in! Ready... GO!

1. What's your favorite 'comfort food'?

I'd say a grilled cheese. It makes everything better! (Milo's Toasted Cheese is even better if you add some french fries.... talk about comfort food! Too bad they're both off my list of food I can eat.)

2. Do you send thank you's handwritten or email?

Both. I prefer to send handwritten and am just AWFUL at doing them. I have a few on my list right now, speaking of... Emails are just so much more convenient since I can type 100 words per minute. I think I hand-write 3 words per minute.

3. If you had to be trapped in a TV show for 1 month, what show would it be?

Oh gosh... what. a. question... Can I pick 12, and be trapped at a different show each month for a year?! I love the biggest loser and I'd LOVE to hike and do all those challenges they get to do... I'd even love it if I had the whole day to do nothing but work out or learn to run a marathon. No TV, internet, french fries to eat.... But then again, I love Glee.... actually I think its more than a love. And LOST! How much fun .... or scary.... would that be?!

So.... my pick is Glee! I'd love to sing on stage again... although they are all so good I probably wouldn't get picked and then I'd be stuck watching THEM sing on stage for a month... without me.

4. What is your favorite online recipe site?

Definitley Pillsbury! They have the BEST and easiest food to make and you can search for anything.

5. If you had to choose: "Friends" of "Sienfield"?

Definitley 100% hands down, Friends. I've seen every episode 4.2 billion times and still miss it.

What fire alarm?

I thought you should meet Ben. He's rather fun. However, he is VERY unphotogenic (new word). Seriously, for such a handsome guy, he just cannot take a picture! I have fought and fought with him. He can be stone-cold sober and takes a picture like he's been drinking for 4 days straight. Or its his tongue... he can't keep it in his mouth if a camera comes out.

Tonight he is out in his beloooved garage working on his even more belooooved buggy. He set the fire alarm off for the 17th time this week (very fun, let me tell you!), so I decided to go out and ask, "honey, what exactly are you doing?" (in those very kind words of course, who cares if the fire alarm goes off 4 times a day... not me!) Meet Ben:

Look VERY close here and you can see his 4-day-drunk face. ...Sigh.... He would be VERY happy if he ever read my blog to know that I put pictures up of his buggy. One day it will be back up and running and I'll have fun pictures to post of us rock crawling. See # 19.

But I can't let it all be unphotogenic... here is normal, handsome Ben:

Snow Delay

Here in Alabama it snows maybe once a year and usually it all melts within 3 hours. Our favorite weather man, James Spann, has been reporting snow alllllll week, that might even stick!

LOTS of hype.

So today was the day!

It started snowing around 10am.

Snowing pretty heavy!!

It was SO fun!

...for about 32 minutes.

That was it.

Class tonight was canceled, we left work at noon (still anticipating more snow) and I was in my pajamas by 1 (When I was a teenager, I NEVER understood the people who wanted to get in their sweats by 4, couldn't wait to take off their bras or refused to sleep in a thong......anyways, I've reached that day. I just want to be in my gym clothes all. day. long.). So now I start my internship on Monday without having been to my class first (I really prefer to know exactly what is expected of me before I begin things). But oh well, it is VERY nice to have a day off.

Have you seen this show?!

Secret life of the American Teenager, that I think they've reduced down to 'The Secret Life'?

I remember a couple years ago when it came out and I thought it would be a wholesome show, since it IS on ABC Family.... about a girl who gets knocked up (obviously I'm nieve).

I turned it on today (a few years into it I'm assuming) and watched for maybe 9 minutes and the ONLY thing that was talked about was sex! Literally. One girl said she wanted to marry a boy, but the girl she was talking to, was like, 'well sorry I'm sleeping with him', and the first girl said, 'well that is okay because he has to have sex with someone!' WHAT?!

Then it goes to her parents, who are also having sex, and then skips to her brother who has down syndrome and he wants to have sex with his girlfriend too. Pans over to someone's boyfriend who mentions that he wants to see a girl again after the first night he met her and had sex with her. He did then mention that he was a Christian and the girl said me too.... so we are sinners together, and gave that weird eye brow thing.

Okay, so is this the only thing this show is about????? Does anyone watch it?

I've totally lost faith in ABC Family if that's what this show is about.
I'm fully aware that there is a lot of junk out there, but I thought ABC Family was a good wholesome channel you could turn to when you wanted to get away from the filth? (I was actually trying to get away from the blood and guts of House for a moment).

This show is targeting pre-teens right? So I'm thinking 10-12 year olds, who will be thinking that the only thing going on in 9th grade is sex, everyone is having it, everyone is doing it, and its all anyone talks about. That it is okay to let your boyfriend have sex with other girls if he can't have sex with you? Wow...

What do you think? Am I overreacting in my shock?
